panic selling, people expecting there margin to reduce in the future. Forced branch expansion, making them stop giving out high yielding  loans(leasing).  Increased NBT, company tax increased by 2% also. Surcharge on credit card payments made in overseas. Banks make huge margin through that. Now lot of people will stop using there credit card overseas. They will take travel card instead of credit cards overseas.

In the long run these shares will be okay but i expect following shares to reach these level short term

NDB 195
HNB 200
Samp 240
NTB 80

At these level banking shares are very much undervalued. Even CMP these are undervalued.

Profit dividends, bonus shares, script dividends are out of bound when sellers throw out much undervalued banking shares. Amazingly, even well performing bank shares like SAMP & HNB are on losing streak.

According to the budget proposals this will not be the case. Banks will be stopping providing leasing but they are allowed to offer term loans taking the vehicle as a collateral. What are the impacts of this? Anybody have analyzed?   Here is my analysis.

At current rates leasing rates are higher than term loans even higher than personal loans. So if this is the case banks will be financing vehicles at lower rates for a tenor of 1-5 years. The borrowers will definitely attracted to this due to the lower cost.

Not only that the rentals will be VAT free so the rentals will be lower too. In addition it will be much much convenient if the customer would like to pre-settle the facility as the borrower can be the remaining capital outstanding plus some penalty. But with leasing you have to pay capital as well as 60-70% of future interest as well.

Isn't this very much attractive for commercial banks and are they gain extra benefit over finance companies? Analyze and see.

EC, there is a point which nobody has touched yet.

100% guarantee for deposits of NBFC. This will drain banks deposit base due to higher rates offered by NBFCs. Therefore Bnaks may have to go for more expensive borrowings.

Not the way you interpreted. This guarantee has been provided to reinstate the lost confidence by public on the aftermath of calamity faced by depositors in the cases of Golden Key, TFC, CIFL, etc. There is a new limit on interest rates imposed on finance companies to prevent unnecessary funds being accumulated in the finance companies. So this budget has redirected commercial banks to concentrate on core banking activities and compel them to expand throughout the country. On the other hand encourage Finance Companies to focus on non banking financial activities.

NBFCs can treat senior citizens who are over 55yrs where as for banks the age is 60yrs. Now they can give 15% (where 1.5% will be reimbursed by CBSL) and capture the market which banks were catering up to now coupled with the 100% deposit guarantee. This will obviously direct banks relatively low cost funding to NBFCs where rational people over 55yrs who are maintaining there savings at banks should move to NBFCs.

This Budget is an integrated budget where thought process has been considered on funding new business (leasing, pawning) which NBFCs to receive though budget proposals.

In my opinion , it is a good decision by  the government to restrict the banks to do banking and finance companies to do the rest. It is a long term plan and beneficial for the country's development.

There is a limit on foreign investments in Sri Lanka treasury bonds. The limit has been brought down from 15 to 10%. It is directly targeting to redirect foreign funds to Sri LANKA'S CAPITAL MARKET . Likewise the there are lot of support for listed companies through the budget.

Keeping a close eye at COMB.

SAMP is only fairly priced among COMB, NTB,NDB, SEYB. HNB & SDB are quiet better after SAMP.

more price correction should be coming soon.
