I think we will have some of the best plays in the above stocks during next five years.

What is your best choice and why? Which one will have best prospects in the coming years?

very good initiative for the sector..

July 28, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Sampath Bank group's net profits in the June 2011 quarter rose 52 percent to 1.13 billion rupees from a year earlier partly helped by a provision reversal amid strong loan growth, provisional accounts showed.

The group reported 7.26 rupees of earnings per share for the quarter.

Interest income grew 11.8 percent to 5.1 billion rupees in the quarter while interest expenses grew at a faster 19 percent to 2.97 billion rupees making net interest income grow at a slower 3.2 percent.

Group's performing loans grew 21 percent to 149 billion rupees by end June 2011 from December 2010.

Fee income fell 9.0 percent to 1.23 billion rupees with forex income falling 32 percent to 100 million rupees. Sri Lanka's rupee is now less volatile and appreciating giving fewer opportunities for banks to make forex gains.

Unspecified other income also fell 6 percent to 1.13 billion rupees.
The group made a net 405 million rupees reversal of loan losses compared to a 322 million rupee provision a year earlier allowing pre-tax profit to rise to 1.76 billion rupees in the quarter from 1.4 billion a year earlier.

The group said reversals included 275.9 million rupees provided for an investment in Union Bank, which is now listed on the Colombo stock exchange.

Total non-performing loans had fallen in absolute terms by 4.1 percent to 5.6 billion rupees by end June 2011.

Group gross assets grew 18.7 percent to 223 billion rupees and net assets grew 11.7 percent to 18.7 billion rupees.

I think COMB is a real Gem. Its half yearly profit figures should be out soon and I wont be surprised if they report an increase in excess 70% because the first quater profits too were exceptionaly good(89% increase). COMB is on a very good growth momentum and all the key fundementals are much above the recommended levels.COMB is also well established in Bangladesh and there is a substantial contribution to the groups profits.COMB is currently trading around a projected 2011/12 PER of 11 which is a huge discount to the market. Also they have declared a 2:1 subdivision of shares,to be finalised in September, which makes the share even more attractive.

Remember I said I didn’t buy shares from private placements or IPO during last two years except UBC. I had 100 shares of UBC I sold it last month to adjust my portfolio last m month.

Most of the times I go behind the businesses I know very well

Now this is the time to apply my own strategy in the coming months.

on what basis you say its attractive.the current prices are below MA.so i would like you to advise to wait at least the technicals show up a buying opportunity. Surprised otherwise you will be basically gambling on any trade.a stock valued at 200rs 1 year ago is not attractive if the current market price is rs 135.it could be the company going down.do not buy against the trend which is bearish longterm for this stock atm. Out of 5 mentioned 3 (Commercial, Sampath & NDB) have major changes in the Board Level very recently, so it will be interested to wait and see the direction the Board is expected to take.

Why are you opening 2-3 year old posts that are outdated?

This is againt what you said your self.

I saw a topic which Shark ( the old Shark before he crossed over to Gmnet/sstar ;-) posted with a poll deleted in day light when it had many resposnes and votes which spoke the truth .

Reason given old post are outdated!!!!!. No democracy forthe people wasting time commenting and voting.

On the smae logic why flood the forum now with useless old posts. Jus tdelete them. Does multi id of GMnet ( Valuepick , Lanka Lion ) and the amazing Shark who is now reformed to support GMnet and bring traffic to forum have no shame? Guess we know now.

Post something of value atleast people can read without digging old posts, wrting crap , generate traffic to show bosses and deceiving public like this.
