I do not have experience with other services in Sapmath bank except this credit card application.
Here the scenario.. again the bank proofs, that we are from Sri Lanka.

almost 50 days ago I applied for a credit card in Sampath bank.
For that they asked pay sheet from my company and bank statement from where my salary is credited.

My salary is credited to the commbank and long time ago I lost my account pass book somewhere.
But still I do have my online banking access.
So I took screen shot of my commbank transactions from combank online admin panel and submitted to Sampath bank.
All the details were clearly shown in the screen shot. Including:

1. My full name
2. Account number
3. Salary credited dates and it's transaction details.

But sampath guys told me that, this may be fake and doubtful and still I need to submit the updated account book photo copy along with the passbook for one time verification.

My question and thoughts are:

1. Even a bank can not understand other bank's statement why the hell they provide e-statements?
2. For the sampath credit card they told me they will provide e-statement only NOT a printed statement. In that case if any other bank ask for my credit card transaction activity to proof something for some other need in future, will they understand Sampath's e-statement or they also will ask for printed book / statement?
3. If still every sri lankan brains need a printed statement / account book why the hell banks provide e-statement and PROMOTING it? Only for charging from us LKR 500 annually?
4. Why still we are so soo Sri Lankan in this 2015 too?

Any bank will reject screen shots. Normal way is to get a printed statement from your bank - with there seal - and submit to the other bank. This is same for Visa applications and other services.

correction : with their seal.

E statements are fot normal reference. To submit your info to other banks also you should go to Sampsth branch and ask a certified printed statement.

It is not for Srilanka even in Western country also happening like what Chinwi said.

I do not know about western countries.
I studied in Malaysia. An Asian and ASEAN country.

A bank called May Bank accepted e-statement of another bank called Bank Islam.
I took screen shot my statements from online and submitted to them.

When I worked in Singapore they accepted scanned passport copy.
JP sign or other formal things were not required.

One year ago when I requested to pull out my payment that was accidentally paid from my commbank debit card, they asked me to get a letter signed from JP which confirmed that the account and the money is mine. affraid
Does not my bank  know that was my money?

I am working in colombo 4 .
I do not know any JPs here and by day time I was unable to go to meet JPs.

After 10 days I found a free slot and went nearby punchi borella passport office.
There are JPs doing their jobs. Queued.

Then a JP asked LKR 250 to certify my letter.
I paid him and he signed. TADA...
He never knew me before...

So what commbank expected in this situation by that letter is certified? confused
just to pay that JP who is queued near by passport office?

Even I completed all the bank related things I was delayed for a JP signed letter for 10 days.
I paid a JP after 10 days and got certified.

Why this useless formal procedure.? and waste of time?

Bro system is good but only thing is collectively we abuse it.
Its there to protect u.countries like Singapore private sector has more legal protection than common man .if u submit fraud documents in those countries the bank will make sure that u are black marked to whole banking system in the country. But here people happily play around with banks or other institutions. And it is long process to take legal action. So bank try to protect them self and ur self. JPs not supposed sign fake documents. But in SL they do. So who is wrong.
This situation well known by MNCs .that's why they reluctant to invest here.
That's why US and west keep saying us to comply to their rules.

Sad thing is if we comply to them blindly .they will take advantage of it and our citizens will left with nothing. That's what happening now.

As a former HNB bank staff,  I support " Chinwi " is very correct.

many scams and identity theft are taking place in this world at this time with all the technology we have.

one must appreciate the banks actions.

in my experience the Sri Lankan banks are better in many ways than some overseas Banks in applying very practical and common sense decisions/approach .

it is all done to protect the innocent customers from the wrong doers however much it some times create inconvenience for some.

why not do the right thing ? , get a bank confirmation letter and also get a new pass book by giving an indemnity to the bank.dont facilitate and allow for fraud to take place  by keeping quite and not reporting the loss of your pass book.

you should be proud of your Bank.

thanks

Customer relationship of banks in the country is very poor. It is worst in having some information over telephone. You are very lucky if you get the right person at least after explaining the same for 4-5 staff.
Both public & private sector are same. Best thing is talking to senior staff in person to get solved your problem.
