Boeing Suspends Dividend Amid Covid-19 Crisis

March 20, 2020 8:13 pm ET[/size]

Listed companies to Cancel Dividends amidst Coronavirus crisis? Im-147649?width=620&size=1
Boeing announced late on Friday that it was suspending its dividend. The move is one of several actions the company is taking to manage through the Covid-19crisis.
“Boeing [ticker: BA] is drawing on all of its resources to sustain operations, support its workforce and customers, and maintain supply chain continuity through the Covide-19 crisis and for the long term,” the company said.
The dividend halt has been the subject of Wall Street speculation for days as the Covid-19 situation worsened. In addition to the dividend action, CEO Dave Calhoun and Chairman Larry Kellner are forgoing pay for the rest of 2020.
Boeing will also extend its buyback “pause” until further notice. The company stopped buying back shares in April 2019, shortly after the 737 MAX grounding.
The 737 MAX—Boeing’s newest model single aisle jet—has been grounded for more than a year following two deadly crashes inside of five months. Boeing planned to bring the plane back by mid-2020, but the virus has created an unprecedented situation for the aerospace and airline industry.
Boeing shares are down an unbelievable 70%year to date, far worse than the drops of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500. Even airlines, on average, are doing a little better that Boeing shares, dropping about 60% so far in 2020.

They can not cancel the dividends once they ahnounced. Dividends pay based on past earnings basically. Once ahnouncement was done , it reflect to share prices its exchange. In such a situation share trading must be cancelled the date of ahnouncement to latest cancellation date. It seems not practical.
