The December 2010 quarter net profit at Sri Lanka's Sampath Bank almost doubled to 1.4 billion rupees from a year ago with basic earnings per share up 96 percent to 8.84 rupees, a stock exchange filing said.

Is that earnings figure based on the weighted average number of shares or the actual number of shares? (remember they had a split)

I think its misleading. you have to look at ther absolute no. I think it had some big capital gain init. you better check line by line, rather than reading what LBO has reported.
