Sri Lanka IPO flow to pick up pace in 2011
Feb 24, 2010 (LBO) - Sri Lanka will see around 50 initial public offerings in 2011, with at least two issues over five billion rupees (50 million US dollars) by April, securities exchange commission director general Malik Cader said.
"We expect about 10 IPOs to come by March-April this year," Cader told reporters. "About two of them will raise over 5.0 billion rupees each from the market."

Cader said a number of state firms were also slated to come to the market.

The regulator is also looking at current rules on IPO subscriptions where large investors are using bank guarantees to apply for stocks. Small investor have complained that it gives an unfair advantage to large players.

"But there is a view that the market has to have high net worth as well as small investors," SEC chairperson Indrani Sugathadasa said.

"We are looking at the rule and will soon make a decision."

Under current rules generally preference is given to small investors with a larger proportion of their applications being filled.

Usually applications for minimum subscriptions are fully filled.

Good news. We need more stocks. Hope this will lower the high PE ratio of the stocks.

It is unfair that small investors have to give cash by drafts and checks while bank guarantees do not have to. There should be a level ground where everybody has to show the money on table or everybody should be able to apply for shares without paying the cash initially.

Why cannot the small investor get a bank guarantee?
If I'm right, anyone can do that

It's a good news but too much of IPOs may effect the market unless funds are coming from outside.

If it's BOC, it will make a record in CSE.

Yeah I think it will be a really good move. Also without a doubt it will be the biggest company in CSE.

Citrus' two hotels to go public

Waskaduwa Beach Resort Ltd and Kalpitiya Beach Resort Ltd, both subsidiaries of Citrus Leisure Plc, are to apply for a listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange, the parent company said in a statement this week.

This came after investments in the two companies were raised through private placements.
In the statement, Citrus Leisure - formerly Hotel Reefcomber - said it invested Rs. 880 million for 88 million shares of Waskaduwa Beach Resort representing 62.85% of the issued shares. Waskaduwa has also concluded a private placement of 52 million shares at Rs. 10 per share to raise funds to finance the construction of its hotel project.

In the case of the Kalpitiya Beach Resort Ltd, Citrus said it invested Rs 1 billion for 104 million ordinary shares representing 72.18% of the issued shares. Kalpitiya also concluded a private placement of 40.3 million shares at Rs.10 per share to raise funds to finance its hotel, the statement added.
