Well, this is a timely post. Thanks rish for inviting our attention to this. It is always good to have serious discussion on this matter rather than blaming each other.

In addition to what is said in FT, another majour reason for the slowing down is the new system (ATS7) introduced recently. The previous system provided all statistics of a share but the new system do not provide this vital info., needed to take informed decisions. ?What was the out-come of the meeting of brokers recently. Any positive action to rectify the situ.

The Main thing is no investor confidence of the market now... and so many people with cash in hand watching the market performance or moving to the different directions of saving..If you see the previous comments by our members also i can re-member many were thinking different type of investments... moving out from share market for some time or for ever.. same for the HINWI having black money.. at this moment market required a big money to stable.. but still could not find.. few weak back as we heard ETF/EPF money came to the market and it move little up.. but that many use to take the chance to do the day trading or to sell the shares with little gain....Same way rupee devalue also will be one point for this fall down. When Foreign investment came in few weak back people were thinking market will move up... but all this investment came for long term investment for like JKH,COMB etc...

I was wondering today whether to deposit my money in a Fixed Deposit. LB Fin offers 13.5% for 3 months and 15% for one year. If I deposit to my mothers name I get additional 1%.

I feel it's a good return with little risk.

Risk is always there.

I deposited some money in a 'Central Bank recommended' place few years ago. Still waiting to get even a portion out. If invested in share market, at least a % would be available.

Not only fixed deposit you can think about buying gold, foreign currency change etc(see the $ change)/T bills etc.. . or buy a land if possible..plantation...plot form TWOD/Sadaharitha .... many option available but you have to plan according to the capital.

100% agreed. even if you put your money in a safety locker, there is risk. We need to take calculated risks, thats what we do by analysing a share and looking at TA.

For me right now, I don't want to invest my savings in the CSE atleast for another month, so it would be more profitable for me to put my money in a one month FD. I will relook at things again in a month and if looks good I will invest my capital plus the interest I got, maybe I will be able to buy more share than now in a one month time, or maybe not. I might loose more than I earned from the interest, by not investing today in the CSE...

There is a tight connection between risk and the return as shown below.

1. When the risk is high, the return will high
2.When the risk is low, the return will also low.

But when the risk is 0 the return will 0.
That means if you don't bear a risk you will get nothing! Smile

Same for me. I am also watching the market for few months.. keeping money in the FD.. does not want to be a Panic Buyer.. (same as Panic Seller)

The book says like that.. but in our market the other way

1) When the risk is high the return is low
2) When the risk is low the return is high

risk has to be their ..but in proper way and calculated ... not blindly investing in any thing.. Very Happy
