Colombo Stock Exchange saw its All Share Price Index reaching the 6000 points mark during this morning’s trading, the first time the index reached to that level during the last nine months.
The last time the index reached 6000 points was on the 3rd of January this year and on that day the ASPI closed trading at 6,035 points.
“It’s very positive for the market to finally breakthrough the barrier, It always came close and missed” added Prashan Fernando, the CEO of Acuity Stockbrokers.
However, Fernando says it is important that the ASPI is able to end the day at 6000 points or above.
At 10.38 am the index remained at 6,001 points, up 0.53% for the day.
According to Fernando, positive sentiments and good corporate results coupled with foreign buying is helping the market.
Foreign buying on the Colombo Stock Exchange up to date during this year stands at a net inflow of Rs. 30 billion.
The highest ever mark the ASPI reached was 7811 points, way back in February 2011.
