Dec 18, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse witnessed a day of healthy accumulation and active trading which in turn resulted in a staggering turnover being posted. Strategic deals fueled the bulk of the day’s turnover whilst renewed interest and accumulation was seen on a range of counters.

The Benchmark index gained 4.28 points to close at 5,507 whilst the more liquid MPI also gained 27.40 points to close at 5,039. Total turnover for the day was 2.5bn (Approx. USD 19.8mn) .Total volume for traded for the day was over 35.2mn.

4 Block trades were witnessed during the day contributing almost 80% for the day’s turnover. Healthcare sector emerged as the top contributor for the day owing to a large strategic trade on Asha Central Hospital – ASHA. It traded 7,303,257 shares (32.7% stake) at Rs.250. Banking sector heavyweights COMB and SAMP also witnessed 3 block trades and collectively contributed 12% to the day’s turnover. Telco giant DIAL also traded 2 blocks totaling 11,247,303 shares at Rs.8.

Aggressive accumulation took place on Market heavyweight JKH which in turn resulted in the counter contributing over 155mn towards the day’s tally. The counter closed the day at Rs.217.80 shedding marginally. Banking sector caps SEYB.X and HNB.X followed chipping in with useful contributions for the day.

Retail investors also showed some liveliness during the day and was seen focusing on caps such as AEL and PLC. AEL saw aggressive trading throughout the day to gain 1.40/- and closed at 18.40/- gaining 8.24%. HVA and COCR also traded impressive volumes mainly due to retail interest on the counters.

Further penny stocks such as PAP.BLUE.X and MULL dominated retail trading volumes whilst CITH emerged as the top gainer for the day.
