Excellent Idea !! All members of this forum should attend and question Mr. K.C Vignarajah at length to establish his credentials as a public service activist appearing for small time investors.

And move forward to look after the interest of small timers ( of the 170,000 below portfolio value of Rs. 500,000/-) some of them who has become paupers due to this unethical manipulation of the market !!!

Meeting of proposed Investors Association on Aug. 20

The next meeting of the proposed Investors Association will be held on Monday, 20th August, 2012 at 3 pm at the auditorium of the Organisation of Professional Association (OPA). The address and directions to the venue are given below.
It will be hosted by the core group of investors appointed at the previous meeting to prepare a structure of the association and will be facilitated by me.
The tentative agenda for the meeting is as follows:
2.45 pm-3 pm: Registration
(Note: All proposed invitees should have informed my office of their interest in attending the meeting with their contact details including email and telephone numbers and postal address).
3.15 pm – Meeting begins with short comments by the facilitator/convenor
3.30 pm- Presentation of the structure and format of the association, the membership form (which would be distributed) and the way forward.
4-4.30 pm – The core group would then respond briefly to any clarifications on the structure of the new grouping; and decided on the dates of the next meeting.
The focus of this organization is to campaign for the rights of independent, minority shareholders and make them a strong voice in making representations to the authorities, the SEC, the CSE and the Government on matters relating to the stock market. Membership of the association will be strictly confined to independent, minority shareholders of listed companies.

We have increased the attachment size in the forum. Small Investors Association if think appropriate could upload the draft constitution as an attachment so that the members could discuss the issues before the meeting.

Sorry, I could'nt attend the meeting owing to an urgent matter at home. ?Any one who attended please let us know what happenned.

PS: Sunday Times who volunteered to support the association did not publish the draft constitution of the association in their 19th eddition as promised earlier and they even did not mention about the inauguaral meeting in the paper on that day. ?Are they also under preassure from some one. confused

Over the past months, there have been efforts by a group of dedicated individuals who are Independent Minority Shareholders (IMS) of public listed companies (PLCs) to form an association. The proposed association would represent their interests the interests of IMS, irrespective of whether they are members or not, a statement said.

"The need for an effective, ethical and professionaly-run association that would represent investors of this category has been a long-felt need ever since the 1980s when the stock market began growing and expanding in a free market society," minority share holder rights and good governance activist K. C. Vignarajah, on behalf of the Core Group, said.

"The urgency for such a body intensified recently in the context of developments in the market in the past 8 months which has seen the resignations of two honorable/respected and upright individuals, Ms Indrani Sugathadasa and Dr Thilak Karunaratne, as chairpersons of the SEC in their efforts to ensure fairness, equity and a level-playing field for all investors.

"In June 2012, around 45 investors met at the auditorium of the Organization of Professional Association (OPA) and after a discussion, a core group amongst them was selected to prepare the structure of the association, its formation and the way forward, with the convenor / moderator being given the discretion to make adjustments based on complains, objections and / or needs of IMS.

"The core group met on several occasions and has worked hard to develop an organizational structure, membership form with criteria for membership, and other details. Investors desiring to be members of this association will be admitted based on the listed criteria.

"At the second meeting of the proposed association held last Monday at the OPA auditorium which drew a large appreciative and focused set of investors, details of structure and its formation was explained.

"It was also explained that the Association is aimed at meeting the long-term needs of its members in all aspects including creating awareness on how to invest and a clear understanding of all aspects of the stock market.

"The next steps of the association will be communicated to the media shortly," the statement said.
