Is there a way to obtain a list of transactions executed under a trading account?
I know our accounts are registered with brokering firms. But are these accounts also registered with CSE?

I would like to obtain an trail of transactions rather than listening to the broker at the other end of the line.

Appreciate any advice on how to proceed

When buy/sell shares you should get a statement of what you bought either paper based or via e-format.

You need to open your share trading account at the CDS (Central Dipository System) through a broker. CSE is electronically connected to CDS accounts so that all transactions are reflected automatically in your account. If any transaction is done under your account a contract note is also sent to you the following day or you can request the broker to email it to you. In addition, if your broker provides on-line trading facility ask for that and you will be able to track all your transactions any time of the day. There is no way that your shares disappear. Happy trading friend. Smile

ok, so i feel there are some shares (about 25000) missing from my portfolio. took this up with my broker and he says its not visible on the system. - This i also know b'cos i realized it after login-in myself, hence the reason for me to call him.

What steps can i take to identify if someone has done any illegal txn's without my knowledge?

Only problem is i dont have any source documents to prove the transaction took place. Transaction was about 2.5 years ago.

Also if you are missing shares of a company you can call the company secretory to check the history of transactions.
CDS also sends you quartely documents in most cases of your share holding.

Surely you should have got CDS monthly/quarterly/annual reports. If not you can ask them for one.

Check what shares gone missing, some companies went for capital reduction

I feel you can check with the relevant secretaries of the companies, they might be able to help you

I don't think it's possible. If you have all the CDS statement you received you'll be able to findout when those shres disapeared.I guess a force selling.

Dear Mr/Ms gangul,

Thank you for opening this thread. I really cannot think what has happened.

Somehow, I take this opportunity to tell you what most of you do not know.

Our holding is maintained at CDS database.
When you connect online you do NOT see it. Instead, you see the data from parallel database maintained at Broker place.
When you give a sell order it check brokers database, then go to check CDS. If holding is available it goes to next steps and selling will be executed. After completing it in CDS system the massage will come to Brokers system and the transaction is entered in their database too.

Sometimes , due to many reasons including coding errors at broker 's system your transactions are not entered correctly in broker's database.

This has happened to many people.
The wrong quantities are kept accumulated without notice for months in some cases.

In one case, a happy investor with a portfolio of 2.5 million complained he cannot sell some shares although they are shown as holding. First they told him that is impossible.
After many complains, they checked their system and found many shares in Brokers database are not in CDS!.

Actually, he has sold them time to time many months ago and received money but deduction has not happened in brokers system. Then they manually entered correct figures referring CDS amounts.
His portfolio value reduced to 1 .2 million, he escaped from near Heart attack.

Hence always check CDS report sent to you monthly. That is the correct one. Brokers can alter your figures in their database. But they cannot change CDS.

In your case you have checked brokers online database. Pl. check CDS also.

unfortunately i got to believe GUNGUL's claim ...... coz i also experiencing some thing simpler to this... its like... I got LOFC 26k shares but I can place sell orders only for 13K, for other lot of shares (13k) I can't set sell orders... also ways i have to call my broker to do so, similarly, for my GSF shares I faced the same fate! Sad

What a jillmart!

If u r suspecting ur broker is fishy, quit the brokering agent and join reputed stock brokers

Eg: JB Securitites, John Keells etc

Cheers!

Thanks for the info. Due I am working overseas never checking the monthly report comes to my Colombo house. But with your referring case I think better to start checking the monthly report for the safe side. Very Happy

Best thing is to inform CDS and request the statements for that perticular year. But it will be very hectic to go through the last 2.5 years transaction to i dentify this issue. I got a similiar problem where my broker forcefully sold some of my shares and the best thing is I didnt have any outstanding for me to force sell. But the broker accepted their mistake so there was nothing to be said or done.
